I Wish Thom Yorke from Radiohead Wasn’t a Socialist
Cause I love Radiohead. Anybody that is remotely cynical can appreciate them. I’d have to say that OK Computer was the best album of the 90s and they rank as my number one favorite band. I especially love when Thom sings about politics. He’s cynical enough to understand that government is a source of tyranny, like when he sings:
You look so tired, unhappy
Bring down the government
They dont, they don’t speak for us
This line is great cause it comes out of nowhere and is in stark contrast to the other lyrics in the song. It stands out. And being the patriotic dork that I am I sing this line right along with Thom and think about how much this government sucks now. If you’re not aware of Thom’s activism you might think he’s talking about how government intrusion into free markets has stunted the individual’s ability to prosper. Yeah, you wish you capitalist pig idiot! He’s talking about how government is allowing globalization and how government not just tolerates but ENDORSES all that capitalism that oppresses the masses.
But what can I do? I love the song. I tell myself that the point of that line isn’t really about government but about the things that we obsess over and let ruin the quality of our lives; things we have no real control over. But deep down I know better.
Hello World Indeed!
I’m noticing some problems with how I share information. I have a professional portfolio for my sound design enterprise, a somewhat amateur photo site, lots of music on MySpace and Soundcloud and I also like to share videos, photos and commentary. This blog will be a nice nesting place where all my photos, music and berating of idiots exist in one place.
It’s definitely a work in progress but I hope to someday soon have a neat little site with lots of fun stuff that my friends and other people can enjoy.
So, welcome travelers!
